How Do You Get Lucky?

Whenever I hear someone say, "They are so lucky". Or, "Some people have all the luck". I stop and wonder... Are they really lucky? Or does it have to do with more than luck why some people get what they want.

Then I recently came across a quote from Richard Branson:

“I have not been any more lucky or unlucky than anyone else. The difference is when luck came my way, I took advantage of it.”

Then there is the old adage we hear, "Luck is when opportunity meets preparation."

What I have found is you have the power to make and create your luck. Here is how...

The Formula for Getting Lucky

Preparation + Attitude + Opportunity + Action = Lucky

Let's break it down.

Preparation

Preparation is all about your personal growth. If you are not in the place you want to be (career, health, relationship status, etc...) it is because you are not qualified yet. You must constantly be working to improve yourself. We can do this by feeding our brain. To improve our physical health we workout and eat clean. To improve our personal development we must feed our brain with the proper information and associations. We can do this by the high quality book/magazines we read and the people we surround ourselves by. Your chance at luck can come when you do not expect it and if you are not prepared then you have missed out and who knows when it will come around again.

Attitude

This is where most people miss out on becoming lucky. You get out of life what you believe you ought to. Everything you get in life (good or bad) is based on your mindset and/or attitude. You cannot see what you don't look for, and you cannot look for what you don't believe in.

Opportunity

You can create your opportunities in your life. But you have to create them. I think most people believe they deserve to be lucky. I believe you reap what you sow. If you sow good you reap good. If you sow badly you reap bad. And sometimes if you sow good maybe the reap doesn't happen right away. But doesn't that mean it won't happen. Well, maybe only if you stop sowing. When people feel they deserve to be lucky because they sowed good they usually STOP sowing because they expect to reap a benefit. The more and more you put the time, commitment, to improving yourself the better you become and the more attractive you are. Opportunities are attracted to attractive people. Make yourself as attractive as possible to reap the most amount of opportunities possible.

Action

This is where the magic happens. You came become very proficient in all of the points above but still never get lucky. It will never happen for you unless you take action. I feel this is the hardest part for all of us. This is where we find out what we are made of. All the hard work, time, energy will not produce any positive result unless we ACT! Just as Richard Branson's quote said he is no more lucky than ANYONE else, he just took advantage of luck when it came his way.

What is the luckiest thing that has happened to you? Has luck knocked on your door and you didn't answer it? Why? What is the hardest part of the Getting Lucky formula for you?
